Lauren DrummondLauren Drummond plays Mika Grainger

GIVE A DESCRIPTION OF THE CHARACTER YOU PLAY?
Mika is a typical teenage girl with an attitude problem. The fact her parents have split-up has had a big effect on her, making her cocky and cheeky and she especially turns against her mum Izzie.

DESCRIBE YOUR CHARACTER IN 3 WORDS:
Cocky, mischievous and insecure. Cocky in relation to Izzie and Mr Clarkson, mischievous when she meddles in Izzie's personal affairs and insecure cue to her parents' split - she needs the stability of a stable family unit.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT MIKA?
I love how Mika can sometimes be so cutting and snide. Although it is sometimes mean and hurtful, especially towards Izzie, it is so different to how I am. Some of her snide remarks can be quite awkwardly amusing!

WHAT DO YOU LIKE LEAST ABOUT MIKA?
Mika doesn't have a best friend or a boyfriend and this probably prevents the audience from seeing a softer, more caring side to her.

WOULD YOU LIKE YOUR CHARACTER IF YOU MET THEM?
I think Mika can sometimes put herself across as being quite rude and perhaps stuck up! I can't stand rudeness, so maybe not on first impressions but once I got to know her and realise that she is just insecure, I think we could get on.

WHAT ARE MIKA'S LIFE VALUES AND DO THESE DIFFER FROM YOUR OWN?
Mika values her family so much which is why she has such a difficult time when her parents split up. My family are the most important people in the world to me. They are my best friends, so in that respect we are similar. Mika thinks a lot about what people think of her as I do, but I'm not half as bothered!

HOW ARE YOU SIMILAR OR DIFFERENT TO THE CHARACTER YOU PLAY?
We are similar in the fact we value our families. However no matter how hurt I was I would never speak to or treat my mum the way Mika treats Izzie. I think with regards to her sister Chlo and her boyfriend Donte's storyline I would react far more sensitively where as Mika seems stronger and more together as she doesn't know all the ins and outs.

WHICH CHARACTER AT WATERLOO ROAD DOES MIKA RELATE TO BEST?
Mika doesn't have anyone she relates directly to but I would say Chlo mostly. As her and Izzie do not see eye to eye at all after the break up. Where as Mika is there for Chlo through her troubles with Donte and Chlo is aware, although she doesn't agree of Mika's heartache, over the split.

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN A VICTIM OF BULLYING?
Fortunately not. More so bitchy girls.

ANY WORDS OF ADVICE TO KIDS WHO ARE VICTIMS OF BULLYING?
Always remain you. And the best revenge you can get is coming out the better person. Jealousy and bitterness is a terrible thing so rise above it. Don't give it the time of day. ALWAYS try and tell someone.

WHERE WERE YOU BORN AND BROUGHT UP?
I was born and brought up in Cheadle Hulme, South Manchester.

WHERE DO YOU LIVE NOW?
I still live in Cheadle Hulme.

WHAT WERE YOUR FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF ARRIVING AT THE SET?
I was intrigued with the Waterloo Road set because it was a big school but it had tiny chairs and small sinks. Everything was miniature but I didn't realise it used to be a primary school. So it brought back memories of Hurstead, my Primary School.

ARE THE CLASSROOMS AND CORRIDORS OF WATERLOO ROAD THE SAME AS WHEN YOU WERE AT SCHOOL?
Pretty much. The design department did such a good job of getting the graffiti spot on, I'm sure there was chewing gum under the tables too!

DO YOU SEE SIMILARITIES BETWEEN WATERLOO ROAD AND A SCHOOL YOU KNOW OR ATTENDED?
I can definitely see similarities between Waterloo Road and my schools. There was lots of graffiti and it was cold - spot on!

DO YOU THINK WATERLOO ROAD IS A REALISTIC PORTRAYAL OF A SCHOOL?
The set is almost definitely realistic. I think you'd have to ask a real teacher if all the affairs that went on behind staffroom doors were correct! But from a student's view I'd imagine the same must! The competition, rumours, bullying and relationship issues are very realistic.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST PROFESSIONAL ACTING ROLE?
The BBC daytime programme - Doctors.

WERE YOU A MEMBER OF THE DRAMA CLUB ETC AT SCHOOL?
Yes, I did drama, choir, band and dance - I wasn't that good at band or dance but I tried.

WHAT ROLE ARE YOU BEST KNOWN FOR?
I wouldn't say I have had any parts big enough yet! But I did once get a letter from a little boy who saw me in Grange Hill. I thought it was a wind up! Other than Heartbeat but it hasn't been out that long yet.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE STORYLINE COMING UP AND WHY?
The bunny on the roof storyline was brilliant. It was easy for me to relate to Mika in some ways as I am very close to my dad. And it was comical too especially when David who plays my dad Jimmy, got on the roof dressed as a rabbit!

WHAT HAVE YOU ENJOYED MOST ABOUT RECORDING WATERLOO ROAD?
I most enjoyed working with such experienced talented actors and actresses. I learnt so much from Angela, Denise and Jill especially. It has been a brilliant experience and learning curve. In terms of funny stories, there was one when Katie who plays Chlo had to throw Mika's mobile phone but it slipped out of her hand at full speed and hit one of the electricians on the nose and he had to go to A&E! It's funny now but it wasn't at the time.

DID YOU HAVE A HOLIDAY LAST YEAR?
I was lucky enough to go to New York with my mum, dad and brother this Christmas to celebrate my 18th birthday. It was amazing. It felt like you were on a film set. There were loads of places I recognised.

DO YOU SUPPORT A FOOTBALL TEAM?
I'm a massive Manchester City supporter. We have season tickets and I've nicked my brother's whilst he's at university in America.

HAVE YOU ANY LONG TERM GOALS OR AMBITIONS FOR THE FUTURE?
It is my dream to do films but I know I have a lot of learning and development to do yet - but fingers crossed!
