GIVE A DESCRIPTION OF THE CHARACTER YOU PLAY?
English teacher, keen sportsman, loves Man City, laid back, irresponsible. He is passive in terms that he will avoid confrontation but this is much to his detriment as things then build up and escalate and explode in his face. In a bid for the easy life he actually makes his life far more complicated.
DESCRIBE YOUR CHARACTER IN 3 WORDS:
Selfish, irresponsible, confused.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT TOM?
Others may perceive him to be immature but I see him as endearing - he has a sense of fun about him, and he can relate to kids as he is a big kid himself - I like that.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE LEAST ABOUT TOM?
His inability to deal with problems.
WOULD YOU LIKE YOUR CHARACTER IF YOU MET THEM?
I'd like Tom if I met him as he is charming and lovable and a friendly bloke. He's able to get away with things because people find him endearing and they forgive him because he's fun.
WHAT ARE TOM'S LIFE VALUES AND DO THESE DIFFER FROM YOUR OWN?
He is more of a day-to-day person, no long term plans for Tom. He won't even commit to things tomorrow. I don't have five year plan but I do have a focus and a sense of progression.
HOW ARE YOU SIMILAR OR DIFFERENT TO THE CHARACTER YOU ARE PLAYING?
We both have a sense of fun. I don't like to think of myself as a grown up though I like to think I'm more responsible and wouldn't let things brew. I'd deal with them as and when.
DOES YOUR CHARACTER HAVE LOVE INTEREST?
Lorna is the opposite to Tom in the sense she's organised. She's willing to organise and he will follow along with it. I'd like to see more tenderness between the two and he obviously loved her at some point but just is not in love with her now. And this comes to fruition with the marriage concept. He doesn't think it through and suddenly it all is on top of him.
WHY DO YOU THINK THEY ARE ATTRACTED TO THIS PERSON?
Lorna is very beautiful, very good natured, a loving person. She ultimately means well. A bit of a day dreamer who wanted white wedding from early age
WHICH CHARACTER AT WATERLOO ROAD DOES YOUR CHARACTER RELATE TO BEST?
Grantly - he likes his irrevelance. And Jack as they are similar.
HAVE YOU EVER BEEN A VICTIM OF BULLYING?
No.
ANY WORDS OF ADVICE TO KIDS WHO ARE VICTIMS OF BULLYING?
Tell people, tell teachers. It's important to remember that everyone you are influenced by at school, you won't know in 5 years time. You allow these people to have an affect on your life and they determine how you fit in, but you progress at different times so although you may not be popular at school, this isn't necessarily a template for life. So remember you are an individual.
WHERE WERE YOU BORN AND BROUGHT UP?
Worsley, Salford.
WHERE DO YOU LIVE NOW?
North London.
WHAT WERE YOUR FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF ARRIVING AT THE WATERLOO ROAD SET?
I was more nervous about the working to take much in about the set. It does make you slightly reflective.
DESCRIBE THE STAFF ROOM AT WATERLOO ROAD?
Doesn't smell of strong coffee which I expected.
DO YOU THINK WATERLOO ROAD IS A REALISTIC PORTRAYAL OF A SCHOOL?
We managed to explore some dark issues that stem from school that are relevant and timely so I think we did manage an accurate and realistic portrayal.
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST PROFESSIONAL ACTING ROLE?
TV series called The Andersons - it was a social drama where there were family problems within. I was 18.
WERE YOU A MEMBER OF THE DRAMA CLUB ETC AT SCHOOL?
Not really. I did go to the National Youth Theatre.
WHAT ROLE ARE YOU BEST KNOWN FOR?
The role I would like to be known for is Maldred in Merlin for NBC but I think my role as Stephen Snow in Where the Heart Is, is probably my most recognisable to date.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE STORYLINE COMING UP AND WHY?
I was intrigued by the love triangle between Tom, Lorna and Izzie and yes it will get very messy.
WHAT HAVE YOU ENJOYED MOST ABOUT RECORDING WATERLOO ROAD?
I went to work every day and was able to laugh - usually at someone else's expense!
HAVE YOU HAD A HOLIDAY THIS YEAR?
Skiing in Italy with friends.
HAVE YOU ANY LONG TERM GOALS OR AMBITIONS FOR THE FUTURE?
Continue to work - I would love to make films.
