On their mother’s birthday, Sonya is all out to prove she’s as much of a success as sister Lorraine. Rhiannon encourages Sonya to follow her beautician dreams and sell beauty products to the pupils. But the beauty business quickly goes awry after Rhiannon has a bad reaction to Sonya’s tanning injection and is rushed to hospital.

To make matters worse, Sonya has an argument with Lorraine and is dumped by Ndale who tells her their one night stand was a mistake – his heart belongs to Audrey.

Sonya goes to the care home to visit her mother Maureen who has dementia. It’s heartbreaking for Sonya as her mother fails to recognise her, confusing her with Lorraine. Distraught, Sonya returns to school and makes a shock announcement.

Meanwhile, Lorraine puts business before pleasure and calls time on her relationship with Nikki after growing convinced it’s interfering with work. Steve-O’s reign of terror continues as he takes on Connor’s debt to Barry Barry before warning Kevin to stay away from Dynasty.

Tom explores the risks involved in donating a kidney to Grantly and is shocked when Josh makes a surprise return to Waterloo Road. Tom struggles to tell Josh his donation plans but he’s not the only one hiding a secret.

And there’s love in the air as Ndale makes a surprise proposal to a delighted Audrey.

Dynasty is determined to win the school chess tournament, to prove she’s not just a pretty face and wipe the smug smile off Kevin’s face but she’s sidewiped when ex-boyfriend, Steve-O, turns up at Waterloo Road. After a stint in prison, he’s going straight and wants to make a fresh start with Dynasty in Liverpool.

Steve-O’s charm offensive works and Dynasty decides to drop out of school. Her friends are shocked but Kevin shows little reaction to the news which hurts Dynasty. Tom tries to make his promising student see sense but she’s resolute – she’s leaving school. That is, until she discovers Steve-O isn’t quite the changed man he claims to be.

And when Dynasty turns her affections towards Kevin, she unwittingly puts the schoolboy in serious danger with a jilted and embittered Steve-O.

Elsewhere, there’s uproar in the staff room after Michael and Lorraine announce the cuts they need to keep the school open leaving Audrey fighting for her future at Waterloo Road.

As Grantly lies in a coma, Lorraine insists that Maggie returns to work – she can’t afford to have two members of staff off indefinitely. But there’s light at the end of the tunnel for a distraught Maggie after Tom makes a life-changing decision.

Rhiannon arrives at the schoolhouse barely hiding the fact she’s stayed out all night. She claims she was working at the takeaway with friend Naz. Unimpressed, Maggie heads over to the takeaway but receives short shrift from Naz’s father, Usman – if Rhiannon working there is a problem, she’s fired.

At school, Rhiannon attempts to impress telling Dynasty and Imogen she slept with Naz but is overheard by a furious Maggie. A heated confrontation follows and Maggie reveals she got Rhiannon sacked from her takeaway job.

Seeking revenge, Rhiannon sneaks into Maggie kitchen and steals the spreadsheet for the Waterloo Road catering tender – giving it to Naz, allowing Usman to have the business upperhand.

It’s all too much for Maggie who begins to crack under the pressure. It takes a few wise words from Grantly to make Rhiannon see sense but it could be too little, too late.

Elsewhere, when Audrey’s friend Ndale comes into fix her classroom blinds, Sonya spots an opportunity to hire him as the school’s handyman.

Now living with Michael, Connor is dismayed to learn Imogen won’t be allowed to stay over. Determined to find some way to be alone with his wife, Connor talks to Kevin about buying a car.

Barry overhears their conversation and offers to lend Connor the money for a van. Connor refuses but it’s clear Barry isn’t about to take no for an answer.

Newcomer Fergal is reminded by his mother, Teresa,that Waterloo Road is their last chance. Ignoring her warnings, Fergal heads off to school where Barry catches him taking drugs in the toilets. Seizing an opportunity, Barry coerces Fergal into a dodgy deal, supplying drugs to the school.

Fergal wastes no time in getting to work, offering to sell Harley some pills. A horrified Lula tries to stop him but Harley is sick of being treated like a child and rebels, taking the drugs – with disastrous consequences.

When Fergal’s drug dealing is exposed, Michael invites Teresa to school for a showdown and it’s not long before Nikki unravels their family secret.

Elsewhere, Grantly and Maggie struggle to come to terms with the news that his kidney failure means he’ll need a transplant.

Grantly is determined to keep his condition private from the rest of the school but Maggie can’t hide her true feelings. And when her hopes of donating a kidney to her husband are dashed, Maggie can’t stay quiet any longer.

Michael and the staff are shocked by Lorraine’s announcement she’s appointed Nikki as the new deputy head without consultation. Michael confronts Lorraine but she quickly reminds him it’s her school and she can do what she likes.

Lorraine confides in Nikki that Waterloo Road faces dramatic budget cuts to stay open. Nikki offers her heartfelt support and it appears there’s a growing affection between the two women.

Someone once told me to keep following my dreams because I would never know where it might take me or what is waiting around the corner. As it turns out not even I could have predicted how true that statement was. It took me somewhere I’d only ever experienced on screen. On Thursday 4^th April 2013 I never imagined, even in my wildest dreams that I would ever be given the opportunity to visit the set of my favourite television programme Waterloo Road in Greenock, Scotland but that was where I ended up.

I am just a young lady with a big passion for writing, especially for scripts and television, which I am currently studying as part of my joint degree at Worcester University and hope to go into that profession after I finish next year. Writing allows me escapism from my daily life, and brings a smile to my face when sometimes nothing else works. I have watched Waterloo Road from the very beginning and can say I am one of its biggest fans. I love its cast of quirky and diverse characters as I think there is a character that everyone can relate to. I also love the fact that their writers aren’t afraid to take risks often with hard hitting storylines, such as teenage cancer and pregnancy, death, and disability amongst many other issues.

I know there are probably fans reading this who love Waterloo Road just as much as me who are wondering how I managed to get this chance. Well all I can say is I know how lucky I am and I will be forever thankful for the opportunity and if it wasn’t for the kindness and generosity of the people who work on the show this amazing day wouldn’t have happened and I will never forget those people who organised it for me especially Margaret and Stephen who looked after us on the day. The atmosphere on the set was electric and I loved being in their environment, it’s just made me want to work within the industry even more, I now can’t imagine doing anything else.  I learnt just how much work and dedication goes into producing a show like Waterloo Road, before it even gets to our screens. This included having several meetings from different departments. First I met the extras co-ordinator Kim

Who took me through the filming process and the organisation of the cast and extras, then I met two young ladies from the script team Alex and Priya who informed me of their journey into script work and then the costume department ladies who gave us insights into costume design and where they buy most of their clothes .And as if that wasn’t enough I got to meet several cast members, who dropped in throughout the day, and who were all lovely. This included a friendly conversation with Philip Martin-Brown (PMB). As an added bonus I was even allowed to watch some filming and have my photo taken with a big group of the cast. (I can definitely guarantee fans will not be disappointed! but my lips are sealed for now.)

For me, my day meant so much as everything I learnt will help me in my future as well as those memories I gleaned will last a lifetime. Thank you to all the cast and crew who gave up their time to come and talk to me. Waterloo Road may not be the most conventional school, both on and off screen, but in the day I spent there I received a very special education, one that will stay with me for the rest of my life plus I was very happy to be given a goody bag to take home as a memento of my day.

Waterloo Road will return to BBCOne, at 8pm on Thursday the 2nd of May 2013.

Jason Done, who played the school teacher, has already filmed his final scenes after seven years in the role.

Tom will feature in the next block of ten episodes, which are due to air later in the spring, and show chiefs are promising a memorable exit for the fan favourite.

Waterloo Road‘s executive producer Cameron Roach said: “We will be sorry to see Tom Clarkson leave Waterloo Road, but we promise a finale that can’t be missed, in order that we send this much-loved character off in style.

“We wish Jason all the best for the future and thank him wholeheartedly for the energy and commitment he has given the role. He has been a big part of the Waterloo Road story.”

Done added: “A massive thank you to everyone who’s been involved in the making of Waterloo Road. I’m very proud of what we have achieved and the laughter we have shared.”

Carl was Sporty Spice, Tommy was Posh, Victoria was Ginger, Marlene was Scary Spice and Rebecca was Baby. But unfortunately they did not make it through to the final after facing the judges vote against TV comedian Katherine Ryan. Soap Star Anthony Cotton won heat 2 with some majestic tap dancing too “Anything Goes”.

This year is the 25th Anniversary of Red Nose Day and we hope you’ll join in and support the cause by tuning in to Let’s Dance on the 16th and 23rd of February, then the 2nd of March with the grand final taking place on the 9th of March.

Connor’s bought an engagement ring for Imogen, but when she’s reluctant to wear it he worries she’s got cold feet. In a desperate attempt to get back in her good books he joins the football team. Imogen realises she’s upset Connor and makes him a necklace to say sorry. She confesses that the reason she wants to keep things secret is that her mum doesn’t know they are back together. The pair reconcile and form a plan to get Michael and Christine to go on a date together.

Swapping their uniforms for Red Nose Day T-shirts and Red Noses the loveable characters, including the Barry family, high school couple Imogen and Connor and teachers went back in time for Comic Relief to inspire people around the UK to do something funny for money.

Taking time out from their lessons eighties wannabes Connor, Jack, Barry and Kevin happily jumped on top of their desks striking a moody pose reminiscent of Dead Poets Society. Imogen and Dynasty snuck out of their classroom to join them in the corridors to recreate the iconic Breakfast Club pose.

Getting in on the act head teacher Michael Bryne and his staff, English teacher Christine Mulgrew and new French teacher George Windsor played by Angus Deayton showed their humorous sides by balancing on their pupil’s tables with a Red Nose and a smile.

The cast of Waterloo Road said:

    “We’ve had so much fun today and whatever you’re age you’re definitely not too cool for school! We strongly urge you to do something funny for money and get fundraising this Red Nose Day, Friday 15th March.”

“Show off your talents by singing a song, host an eighties dress up  like us, bake that cake or brainwave a wacky and weird challenge, just have fun and raise lots of money. It’s the cash you raise this Red Nose Day that will help to change the lives of poor, vulnerable and disadvantaged people living across the UK and in Africa.”

Scout and Maggie are horrified to find out Jade’s secret adoption plans for her baby and set about trying to change her mind. Maggie piles the pressure on, even saying she’ll adopt the baby – much to Grantly’s horror. To make matters worse, Jade discovers the baby’s father, Drew, has had his prison sentence extended for violent behaviour.

The would-be adoptive parents, Kaz and Sarah, seem like the only ones Jade can trust – but they have a secret of their own which they’re hiding from the schoolgirl.

In the Mulgrew household, Connor finds a pregnancy test and confronts Imogen, telling her he’ll stick by her and the baby. But when Imogen reveals it’s not her test, Connor realises there’s only one other person it could belong to…his mum, Christine.

When Michael overhears Connor discussing the situation with his friends, he confronts Christine who explains it was a false alarm. However, the scare spells the end of their relationship as Michael’s reaction makes it agonisingly clear to Christine he’s not ready to commit.

Meanwhile the PRU pupils prepare for their big presentation to the school. It’s their chance to shine but Sian fears troublemaker Barry Barry will ruin it for everyone.

Later, when Jade catches Kaz flirting with Lorraine the truth is revealed – Kaz and Sarah aren’t together anymore. Jade’s dream of finding a perfect couple to raise her baby appear dashed and stressed by the secrets and lies which surround, she unexpectedly goes into labour.

Hi, my name’s Hannah Stevenson and I’m at college doing a HNC in music.

What’s your favourite part of your job and why?

Just gaining the experience of it all, every day when you come to work you feel like you’re in a movie! Everyone’s so nice and you get close to a lot of the people you work with.

If you could give someone who’d love to have your job a piece of advice, what would it be?

If you end up doing extra work just never worry about it, relax, there will always be someone there to help you out!

Which Waterloo Road character were you most like at school?

Imogen! Yea…I didn’t really speak much at first, kinda just kept myself to myself.

Where would you go in a time machine and why?

I’d go to the future, everyone has their theories about what things will be like but I want to see for myself.

Who was your idol when you were younger?

I’d say my Mum, she is a very strong person and always does what she wants to do.

What’s your favourite quote or lyric?

Ok..this is soooo lame, it’s from The Hannah Montana Movie, but it’s “Life’s a climb but the view’s great” haha!

What’s the best part about working on the set of Waterloo Road?

The people you meet, everyone loves acting and everyone loves their job.

What role would you most like to play one day?

This is really weird but a mental patient, I think it would be really fun!

If you won the lottery, what would you spend your millions on?

I’d go on a world wide tour!

Where would you like to see yourself in 5 year’s time?

I’d like to still be doing acting work.

I’m an acting student at Reid Kerr College in Paisley. I’m 21 years old but people do say I look younger. You should’ve seen me yesterday! I totally forgot to shave and when I came in they were just like, you’ve gotta get rid of that hair!

What’s the best part of this job?
There’s so much to it. For me it’s probably getting to see professionals close at hand, seeing them doing the job that you want to do. You quickly realise that they’re all people who started off as extras just like me. It’s really inspiring. You look at them at work and think “I could do that too!”

So, if you had any advice for people who wanted to be an extra like you are, what would you say?
I’d say prepare to be waiting around a lot! I remember when I started that a lot of people said being an extra would ”take the Hollywood out of acting” but for me it really hasn’t. I love this job. I love seeing behind the scenes and how it all works, it’s certainly not spoiled anything for me

Which of the Waterloo Road characters would you say you were most like at school? 

I think I’d be like Kevin. I was quite bright, not at maths like he is. But I was pretty cheeky at school I think!

What do you think your last tweet says about you? 

My last tweet was this morning and it was something along the lines of “let’s kick today’s behind!’ I’m so motivated to do this. I wouldn’t wake up at 5 in the morning every day if I wasn’t.

If you had a time machine when and where would you go?

I’d probably go back and see my Mum and Dad when they were younger. All my life I’ve been told not to make the same mistakes that they did. But they’ve never been specific about what those mistake were exactly!

Who was your idol when you were younger? 

When I was younger my Mum used to love Brad Pitt and I watched him in everything. And then I was filming World War Z in Glasgow and actually got to meet him! That was pretty special. Nowadays I love Christian Bale.  I think he’s superb, I want to do what he does!

Favourite quote or lyric?

“While there is life, there is hope.” I’ve always wanted a tattoo of that somewhere but an acting agent I was speaking to warned me not to, in case I ever have to do a nude scene. I’m about to start shooting a film with a nude scene in it actually!

Your last new year’s resolution? 

To get more acting jobs. I’d only done WWZ and that was a couple of years ago. I’d say I have stuck at it. I joined an extras agency and one of the first things I did was River City. I’ve been on Downton too… it’s been brilliant so far.

What do you do when you’re not at work?

I play football or I’m playing my guitar. I’m really into writing music as well. I love getting the things that are in my head down onto paper and that’s how I do it.

What about a big night out? Where are you off to? 

Anywhere I can get in! Nah, one of the best nights out I’ve ever had was my mate’s 21st. We played pub golf, which is where you pick 18 pubs and you can’t have the same drink twice. That night was pretty messy! As long as my pals are with me, it’s always a good night.

Who was your school crush? 

I remember that my primary school crush was Daphne from Scooby Doo! And then it was Sarah Michelle Geller in Buffy, who ended up playing Daphne in the Scooby Doo film! And at school I was pretty flirty. I kinda hit 16, decided on who I was going to be and that was that. I can get into trouble with how much I flirt! Like, there was this one teacher at school -I’d better not say her name… there were no problems until she started flirting back!

What would we find in your fridge right now? 

Oh god, I mean I’m 21 and live by myself so it’s pretty much pot noodles and chippies for dinner! I think there’s a bottle of sprite in there… some bread maybe?

If you were to pen an auto biography what would the title be? 

“Things to come…” There will need to be a second version, I’ve hopefully got a lot ahead of me.

Is there a specific role you’d one day like to play? 

I was thinking about that just the other day. Patrick Bateman in American Psycho.. If that movie came out today I’d definitely do it! Or James Bond. I can see myself doing that!

In 5 year’s time where will you be? 

I’ll be a qualified drama teacher. Obviously I want to be an actor but you always need something to fall back on and I might as well teach what I love. I’ve been teaching drama for a year and a half now, and all my students passed the course which was fantastic for me.

What’s your favourite part of the job and why?

I absolutely love being able to work within the industry, it’s what I want to do, I like seeing the technical side of things.

If you could give someone who’d love your job as an extra a piece of advice, what would it be?

Be ready for hunger, coldness and wrap up warm! haha!

Where would you go in a time machine and why?

I’d go to the 1920s or maybe the 50s…My idols are Fred Astair and Ginger Rodgers, I’d love to be around them in that time.

What’s your favourite quote or lyric?

I always just say ‘Life goes on!’ …I say it quite a lot!

What’s the best part about being an extra on Waterloo Road?

Probably meeting people from all different types of backgrounds and cultures that I wouldn’t have met otherwise.

What do you enjoy doing when you aren’t working?

I love to dance, I enter dancing competitions and I like to make up new routines with my team!

What can’t you live without?

I have a bear called snowy…I’ve had him since I was four, I take him everywhere with me, this is so cringey! haha!

Where do you see yourself in 5 year’s time?

Hopefully on stage performing, I’d love to be in musical theatre like ‘Wicked’ or ‘We Will Rock You’…I’d love to go to study at the Royal Conservatoire in Glasgow.

Probably just to stick at it as much as possible and get as much experience as you can. I don’t think I really had a clue how everything worked until I came to Waterloo Road.

What’s the best part of this job? 

Just getting to do what I do. I love acting and being an extra is still acting! It’s brilliant working here, I get on well with everyone and the cast are all so nice.

How’d you get into doing this?

It kind of just came along, mainly though thanks has to go to my mum and dad, they encouraged me a lot.

Is there a specific role you’d one day like to play? 

James Bond! I’ve always been a fan and I’ve got it all worked out. Daniel Craig is only there for two more films, and by that time I’ll have enough experience just to walk in and take over!

Do you have a favourite lyric or quote?

She Bangs by Ricky Martin. Just, all of it!

Your school crush? 

Emma Watson… It’s actually still Emma Watson!

What’s the one thing you can’t live without? 

Facebook! It’s so bad and I hate it. But, like, I just NEED it.

Title of your autobiography? 

Conquering My Dream.

Your idol? 

I’d say Jim Carey. I was a massive fan of The Mask. I actually managed to remember all the lines when I was about 5 and i think my parents recorded me acting it out!

On a red carpet somewhere, holding an Oscar!

Aww, what’s that guys name? The player dude! I can’t remember his name…Angus? It’s Angus!

It said which pair of shoes should I get!? …think it shows that I’m into fashion!

Who was your idol when you were younger?

Chris brown! It’s controversial, but I like Chris Brown

What’s it like working on the set of Waterloo Road?

It’s good fun! I like meeting new people, truthfully, I didn’t think it would be this tiring.

What do you enjoy doing when you aren’t working?

I like going to the gym, yeah, I like to keep fit.

If you won the lottery, what would you spend your millions on?

I’d buy my family a big house…and I’d definitely buy a bad boy car..like a nissa micra..nah joking a lambo!

Where do you see yourself in 5 year’s time?

I’d like to see myself doing something good, like running my own business…maybe a car spray painting business or a clothes shop!

We caught up with them at work in their spacious ex-science classroom with a view out over the Firth of Clyde and the mountains on the other side.

Ruth: My name is Ruth Underwood and I’m a script editor. My job is to work on developing the story line into a script format. Basically we have to put the ideas in the writer’s brain onto the screen. Usually we have a lot of amendments to make right up to shooting.

Tom: Hi I’m Tom Williams and I’m the assistant script editor here at Waterloo road. My job is to basically facilitate the scriptwriters. Anything that makes their lives easier…

RU: It’s good working with the writers and trying to put their ideas on paper, but also one of the best things is being on set and working with the director, watching my vision actually being made in front of me for the screen.

If you could give someone who wants to work in scripting one piece of advice, what would it be?

TW: I’d say meet people. I think that television is very much about the people you meet and the impressions you make. I think you really have to try and get yourself out there. And always be nice to everyone you meet, you never know where it might lead you.

Which Waterloo Road character would you say you were most like at school?

RU: Oh goodness that’s a hard one. None of them! They’re all so weird! I was quite cheeky but also quite bookish. So… I’d like to say Kevin? Although not quite as clever.

TW: My nickname at school was Melancholy Tom… probably Connor.

What does you last tweet or status update say about you? 

TW: My last tweet was, quite tellingly, a link to a site about a lad who’s been made a football manager in Azerbaijan simply off the back of playing the Football Manager video game at home. That says a lot I think! I love Football Manager!

RU: I think it was probably something about climbing a Munroe!

Who was your idol when you were younger? 

TW: Alan Shearer. Big Alan Shearer and Newcastle fan. He’s an awful pundit now though.

RU:  Well I really liked Boris Becker..

Your last new year’s resolution? 

RU: To buy more blue shoes… I really don’t know why!

TW: I don’t make them. Otherwise I’d have a new one every week. Usually it’s to go to the gym more or start eating better.

Who was your school crush?

TW: I went to an all boys school! But I did fall in love with a girl called Rachel in middle school when I was seven. I won’t say her surname in case she ever reads this!

What’s it like working on the set of Waterloo Road?

RU: It’s ace! When we get to go down to the set it’s really good. Usually we’re just stuck in an office so it can be really nice actually going onto set and watching the actors putting your hard work into practice. That’s when you realise that the script-writing is really just the starting point and that the whole thing is a massive team effort which is exhilarating.

How do you unwind when you’re not at work?

RU: Climbing mountains, the pub, cinema, watch loads of tv.

TW: When I’m not working I go to the cinema, watch loads of telly as well, and generally just being really cultured and intelligent and all that…. totally modest as well yeah!

Big night out, where are you off to? 

If we were out in Glasgow probably the Hillhead Bookclub. You can play table tennis there. The Flying Duck is good as well. There was a singles night there the other evening. It was grim!

That leads nicely to the next question, Tom! It’s a well known fact that single people work harder…

TW: I am indeed single! I’d like to say this job doesn’t leave much time for anything else but everyone here seems to be in a relationship! I’m just a sad London boy a long way from home! I went round the world on my gap year to ‘find myself.’ I just found out that I love drinking.

Finally, where do you see yourself in five years time?

TW: Goodness.. in five years? We really move around a lot doing this job… I’ll just be happy to have a job in five years!

RU: I think I’d like to keep doing this, script editing. But also trying to write my own stuff. Like, half the time doing this and the other half writing my own things.

Tell us about your job:

My job is to break down the script into chunks that are easy to shoot and work out how best to have two teams filming at the same time.
The best bit is coming up with solutions to particularly difficult problems.

If you could give someone who wants a job in production one piece of advice, what would it be?

Definitely learn to drive! You’re not always in the same location so it’s always a useful thing to have for this industry.

What was your favourite school subject?

Geography… I love to travel. Then I went and did geology at uni!

What was your last status update?

In the cinema with just my wife, watching Love Bite, a film I worked on.
One day I’d like to be producing my own films, stories I’d come up with, that sort of thing. When I’m not working I always go to the cinema.

Who is your idol?

Steve McQueen

Your schoolyard crush? 

A girl called Tracy..

What was your first ever job?

Apart from the usual paper round and milk round… I think it was… the deli counter at Safeway, remember Safeway?

What’s your favourite quote or lyric?

Ooh that’s a tough one, I’d have to have a think. Skip that question!

What would you name your autobiography?

‘This Ham Smells of Fish.’ Actually that’s my favourite quote too!

What’s it like working on the set of Waterloo Road?

Quite fun. It’s funny being around the cast. Maybe I should explain the quote? One day, while we were having afternoon tea, one of the techie guys came in, picked up a sandwich, gave it a sniff and goes “this ham smells of fish!” That’s because it was smoked salmon!

Internships are part of the hard graft we all have to do when first embarking on a career in the media. But they can be an immensely rewarding and enjoyable experience, especially in such a busy place as Shed Media.

A student at Cardonald College, Glasgow, Louise Donegan is midway through a two week internship, here in Greenock, tasked with thinking creatively about the social media side of the show.

Introduce yourself and tell us what you do… 

Hi, I’m Louise, and I’m currently studying a Media HND at Cardonald College. This week though I’ve had the opportunity to come and work at Waterloo Road with the social media team.

What’s it like working on the set of Waterloo Road? 

It’s so interesting! I’m a big fan of the show and to see how it all comes together is fascinating. Things look different when you see them in person. And it’s just like being back at school! We have to think of new ways to engage with the fans, who are all so open and crazy about the show. It’s a lot of fun.

If you could give someone who wanted your job one piece of advice what would it be? 

Well, I’m only an intern but for an opportunity like this it really comes down to: if you don’t ask you don’t get. I think people need to have confidence in their ability to make a good impression and not be shy.

It’s a well known fact that single people work harder… are you single?

Haha! That’s not true! I’ve a boyfriend and I work VERY hard (in case the boss is reading this!) all the time…

Which Waterloo Road character are you most like in real life? 

God I don’t know, most of them are so troubled! I’m happy living without so much of their drama! Probably one of the extras!

What does your last tweet say about you?

Haha oh god! Yeah.. it was raining. Wasn’t going to say no to a lift!

Night out on the town, where are you off to?

Probably Kushion, in Glasgow. A regular haunt of my friends!

What’s the one thing you can’t live without?

Laughter! Or… my curlers!

What would I find in your refrigerator right now?
Probably nothing… I really pigged out last night!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

I’ll be 23… hopefully finishing my degree at uni, living in a cute studio apartment in London and looking for a job in the media! And married.. I don’t know – my mum runs a wedding shop.

Everything from school uniforms in every sizes; prom dresses; sports gear; a whole row of tweed jackets; shelves and shelves of smart school shoes, heels, boots and trainers… you could kill a day or two going through it all.

The Waterloo Road crew are so busy all the time but we managed to find a minute or two to speak to the show’s costume designer, Lesley Abernethy, our notebook perched precariously on an ironing board.

What does your job consist of? 

Well at the beginning of the series I’ve the job of trying to design the look of all the character, thinking about what sorts of things they’d wear and how best to define their personalities. Throughout the series I speak to the director and if there’s ever anything special needed for a particular character then I’m the person that goes out and finds it.

If you could give someone who wanted to do your job one piece of advice, what would it be? 

Never think that it’s a really glamorous job, because it isn’t that at all really. And also I think it’s important to say, never get too stressed about it. Sometimes when everything’s so busy and everyone’s panicking, the best thing to do is to just keep calm. In the end it’s only clothes! But you’re always part of such a big team and there’s always someone around to help out. That’s the best bit about this job; the people you work with.

How did you get into doing this job? 

It was always what I wanted to do. There was no specific costume course at the Glasgow School of Art so I did printed textiles. When I left I started working in theatre and then later moved into tv.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time? 

I don’t really have a five year plan or anything. It’s not like I want to do period drama or something. I think it’s best to just take every day as it comes.

What do you get up to when you’re not working?

Spending time with family and friends, you don’t really get many chances to do so when you’re working here. That and cake decorating!

What would we find in your fridge right now? 

Teeth bleaching syringes?

If you had a time machine where would you go? 

The late 60s I think. I was born in ’71 and I just love everything from that year. The music, the clothes! I’d love to go back to that year.

“My job basically is to sift through all the footage and pick out the takes that work best and give them all to the editor to put together. Twice a day we get sent the rushes, that’s thanks to working in the same building as the set.”

Do you have any advice for people who want to get into editing?  

I used to get really annoyed when I was studying and used to ask people in the industry how they got there and they’d always say that it “just kinda happens.” Now I’m getting asked and all I can think of is that it did “just happen” to me. I mean, I studied editing at Cardonald college, got a work placement at River City and then got a job in the BBC. My college were, and still are, really good at getting people work placements. They literally phoned me up and let me know about this. So yeah, you have to just take every opportunity you get and make the best of it, and really just enjoy what you do.

What’s the best part of this job?

It’s probably the people, everyone I work with. It’s so cool that everyone working on the show is in the one building. Most of us really enjoy making the show and we are all working towards the same goal, which is nice.

If you had a time machine where would you go?

I’m a big Doctor Who fan so I’d love a time machine! I’d go back to 1940s/50s America. I’m a big fan of jazz, James Dean, big Hollywood films. It all looked so cool.

What was you last new year’s resolution? 

My new year’s resolution this year was to stop smoking, which I actually managed to do three months ago. So that still counts!

What was your favourite subject at school? 

Art. I manipulated it so that it was just me making films all the time!

What do you do when you’re not working? 

Emm.. I don’t really do very much, I kind of just sit about! So yeah, in bed watching the telly.

What about a night out? Where would you go? 

The pub? Probably a cocktail bar.

If you won the lottery what would you spend the money on? 

I would probably buy a massive house, a big car, loads of expensive gadgets and then be like ‘what do I do now?’ and then just go travelling!

Where would you like to be in 5 year’s time?

I will hopefully be editing things as an actual editor instead of just an assistant. I want to prove myself at doing that.

Every teacher’s worst nightmare, Kyle was arrested at the end of series 7 as the school closed in Rochdale, for a serious assault on Josh with a crossbow. Now released from prison, Kyle makes his way to Waterloo Road’s new Scottish home, the reasons for his return are being kept under wraps. George will film his scenes on location in Greenock, Scotland from this week.

George Sampson is delighted to be back at school: “It’s great to be back especially for such an exciting new adventure and an incredible storyline – but I’m not saying what happens! I’m looking forward to getting going – new cast, new crew, new set – it’s going to be great!”

While Imogen receives devastating news that there’s nothing she can do to reduce her scar, schoolgirl Dynasty makes plans to go under the knife and get a boob job, supported all the way by her pushy mother, Carol.

At school, guilt-ridden Connor still can’t bear to look at Imogen but she’s convinced he’s repulsed by her scars. So when she overhears Dynasty bragging about getting a boob job, Imogen snaps at her shallowness and outs her plans to Michael and Audrey.

Later, Imogen offers a less-than-heartfelt apology whilst Dynasty practices her pole dancing. Later, Dynasty finds Imogen crying and, realising it’s because of Connor, she tells her she’s better off without him.

Imogen admits she thinks its wrong Dynasty’s mother, Carol, is encouraging her to give up school to become a pole dancer. She tries to make her see she’s worth more but their conversation is cut short when Carol arrives to whisk Dynasty off to the dancing auditions.

In the club, Dynasty challenges her mother but Carol dismisses Dynasty’s academic achievements telling her pole dancing is her true vocation. But, encouraged by Imogen’s support, Dynasty starts to doubt her mother’s grand plans.

Elsewhere, Chalky struggles to understand foster son Kevin; Michael asks Christine out on a date; and Scout and Nikki’s fractured relationship worsens when the finger of blame is pointed at Scout after Lorraine’s expensive sports car is stolen. But it looks as though Barry Barry might have a hand in that incident.

Waterloo Road is a Shed Production for BBC One through BBC Scotland. 

All Phoenix and Harley want to do is spend, spend, spend but Nelson’s arrival casts a shadow and causes division. Phoenix reckons Nelson’s only interested in their winnings and feels vindicated when their father reveals his business is in financial trouble.

Angry at his father’s deception, Phoenix wants nothing to do with Nelson but Harley, and then Lorraine, suggest it might be a good idea to invest some of their lottery win into the family business. But, Phoenix has one condition – he wants an apprenticeship in the firm. With the blessing of his brother Harley and the school, Phoenix prepares to bid an emotional farewell to Waterloo Road.

Elsewhere, Nikki suspects Scout has stolen her care and handbag and sets about punishing the pupil. However, Scout discovers Barry is the real culprit and threatens to expose him but master manipulator Barry suggests another course of action to wronged Scout.

Meanwhile, guilt-ridden Connor can’t bear to look Imogen in the eye and she believes it’s because of her scars. As Connor struggles with his terrible secret, Christine tries to intervene but he’s wracked with remorse over what he’s done to the girl he loves.

There’s division in the staffroom after Michael gets unexpected news about his impending court case.  Feeling isolated, Michael confides in Christine, bringing the pair closer together.

Chalky can’t contain his excitement he’s fostering Kevin. But it soon becomes clear Chalky will need to tread carefully if he’s to win Kevin’s trust.

Carol assures Michael her brood will behave but it’s not long before sparks fly when Barry goads fellow pupil Jack MacAlister into a fight. Tom intervenes and discovers the reason behind their hostility – Barry is sleeping with Jack’s mum, Olivia.

When challenged, Barry promises Tom he’ll keep his relationship with Olivia discreet for Jack’s sake, but the troublemaker has no intention of honouring his word and sets about humiliating Jack in front of the school – screening a steamy video of him with Olivia.

Michael gives Barry a stern warning – put an end to his bad behaviour or he’ll be excluded from Waterloo Road. And if Barry won’t listen to his teacher’s words of warning, his mother Carol isn’t so easy to ignore, arriving at school to literally slap her son into shape.

Elsewhere, Scout raises Nikki’s hackles with her disrespectful attitude to being in the PRU. Later, when her car goes missing, Nikki suspects Scout is responsible – an accusation the schoolgirl denies. But Nikki doesn’t believe Scout and the battle lines are drawn.

The new term also brings uncertainty for head teacher Michael. On bail awaiting trial, accused of assisting his father’s death, opinions in the staffroom are divided casting doubt on Michael’s leadership.

Scarred in last term’s fire, Imogen blames Christine for ruining her life and driving a wedge between her and Connor, little realising the truth. Also this week, Chalky learns he is going to be Kevin’s foster parent.

The concert will feature the Stedfast Silver Band, Ardgowan Hospice Singers, The Rock Choir, True Brass and Jordanhill Primary School Choir.

Rebecca says: “I’m extremely privileged to be doing this and I think it’s for a great cause, get’s everyone into the Christmas spirit as well!”

We’ve already mentioned that one of Strictly Come Dancing’s favourites, Lisa Riley, will be back on Waterloo Road next year as Scout’s mum.

Zoe Lucker will hit the screen in the 1st episode of our 2013 run playing Carol Barry, a fearsome matriarch of a criminal family.  She will be joined by Carol’s offspring, Barry (Carl Au), Dynasty (Abby Mavers) and Kasey (Brogan Ellis).

It’s the last day of term but not everyone is in good spirits. Back on the booze, Christine blames work pressures and doesn’t even try to hide her alcoholism from Connor. But unbeknownst to Christine, Connor is secretly plotting with Imogen to run away together.

However, Connor and Imogen’s plans to move into the empty schoolhouse during the holidays are threatened after Christine overhears Scout and Phoenix talking.

Frustrated by Waterloo Road’s poor academic improvements, Lorraine announces some harsh business decisions for the school. To her, the solution is simple – get rid of poor performers like Phoenix.

Michael is horrified and instead urges Lorraine to reconsider. And when he discovers Tariq has been accepted for the national Para-canoe team, it’s proof to Lorraine how Waterloo Road can reverse the fortunes of problematic pupils.

Sussing out Kevin is deliberately downplaying his academic abilities, Chalky confronts him. But it’s not long before the unlikely pair realise they’ve got more than just a head for maths in common, leading Kevin to suggest that Chalky fosters him.

Later, at Tariq’s leaving party, the celebrations are cut short when danger comes calling. Frustrated by his mother’s interference in his life, Connor takes drastic action, with explosive consequences for the school and girlfriend Imogen.

Michael’s own family dramas come to a head when he agrees to help his father, Billy, end his life. But not everyone sympathises with his decision which ultimately puts his future at Waterloo Road in jeopardy.

Waking from a nightmare, Rhiannon heads to the bathroom where she takes out a small tin. But before she can open it, she’s disturbed by rival Scout. Later, at school, Rhiannon finds a quiet spot and takes out the tin again revealing her self-harming kit.

Rhiannon’s disruptive behaviour in school is noted by Audrey who excludes her from class. Believing she’s compensating for her weight issues by acting the class clown, Audrey urges Rhiannon to join the lunchtime power-walking club.

However, when Rhiannon lags behind the others, Audrey asks Scout to look after her enemy. The girls bicker but soon start to joke around together. But the moment is short-lived after Scout notices blood on Rhiannon’s t-shirt. Making Scout promise not to tell anyone, Rhiannon confesses she cuts herself because it makes her feel better.

As Christine and Audrey’s bullying case reaches a climax they agree to mediation. But when Audrey admits some of her actions could be misconstrued, Christine seizes the opportunity to push the case further.

Elsewhere, new boy Kevin takes drastic action to gain credibility with Connor, threatening his future at Waterloo Road; while Lorraine presents Michael with a prospective new PA – Sonya. But unbeknownst to Michael, Sonya already has ties with the school.

Also this week, Sian is horrified to discover Billy has asked Michael to help his life. But she’s further concerned after realising Michael is seriously considering his father’s plea.

The Breast Cancer Care Scotland Fashion Show on the 27^th September 2012 

As you may be aware this month is Breast Cancer Awareness month.  Every 10 minutes someone in the UK hears the terrible news that they have breast cancer. This is a cause close to Waterloo Road’s heart and this year we donated towards the fundraising for the above event, a show that in the last 10 years has raised over 1.3 million for Breast Cancer Care.

The event had over 730 guests and raised £130,000 for Breast Cancer Care, this will go towards support for people that have been diagnosed with the disease.

Morag decides to take part in Lorraine’s bench design competition confiding in her little brother that, if she wins, their estranged mum might find out and get in touch with them.

When Tom turns up to collect Morag’s bench design, her father Kai can’t resist the opportunity to preach about his Freeganist, anti-money beliefs. But his moral high-ground becomes shaky when he learns the competition carries a substantial cash prize for the winner.

Enraged at his daughter’s deception, Kai forces Morag to destroy her handcrafted bench. Horrified, Tom decides to take matters into his own hands and secretly helps Morag design another bench, resulting in a clash of beliefs between Kai and Lorraine.

Connor attempts to help Christine by marking her late coursework but this backfires as he gives everyone a top grade. Suspicious, Audrey confronts Christine about the irregular grades, forcing the English to cover her tracks. Now considering Audrey the enemy within, Christine lodges a false complaint of bullying against her to Michael.

Later, when Connor finds his mother’s drinking again, he finds a potentially lethal outlet for his frustrations.

New boy Kevin turns up at Waterloo Road and quickly draws attention to himself not least from Chalky who suspects the schoolboy is more intelligent than he’s letting on.

Elsewhere, Madi tries to persuade Sian to let her spread her wings and leave school and Billy has a surprising request for Michael to consider.
