A week has passed since Izzie lost her baby, but Tom still hasn't come clean about what happened with Stacey. Izzie has now returned to work but following another attack in the area, she's very protective of Chlo and Mika and doesn't want them walking home on their own. Meanwhile, Tom is avoiding Stacey like the plague. He could lose his job if anyone found out what happened between them. But it's not long before the indiscretion is made public, thanks to big-mouthed Janeece. As far as she's concerned, the police's description of the attacker - average height, dark hair, and a local accent - fits Tom to a tee. And, as she tells Kim, if he'll sleep with a pupil, he might also be capable of attacking one.

Tom finds himself hauled before Andrew and Kim, neither of whom can believe he allowed the situation to get so out of hand. But their reaction is nothing to Izzie's. She's absolutely livid with Tom, not only for keeping her in the dark, but also for getting stuck into the red wine when he was supposed to be looking after her kids. How could he have been so irresponsible? As for Stacey, she swears blind that Tom didn't touch her. Kim isn't convinced though - if Stacey is infatuated with Tom, she'll lie to protect him. Andrew is all for suspending Tom pending a full investigation, but Jack overrules him. The only proof they have is classroom gossip, and that's certainly not enough to risk ruining a teacher's career.

Steph is delighted when she sees Maxine return to school, dropped off by her mum's boyfriend, Kevin. However, Maxine isn't exactly over the moon with the situation, not least because she's got so much missed work to catch up on. Kevin is also getting on her nerves. He's much too over-protective, especially where her boyfriend, Lewis, is concerned. Kevin hates Lewis and the feeling is definitely mutual. Lewis thinks Kevin needs teaching a lesson and plans to ambush him on his way home from working in the school kitchens. However, the plan falls flat when Kevin manages to give him and his gang the slip by disappearing in the park.

Stacey is walking home alone through the park when the attacker grabs her and drags her into the bushes. Stacey fights back and manages to struggle away. In a blind panic, Stacey runs screaming through the trees and eventually, comes face to face with Lewis. He claims to have been alerted by her screams, but she doesn't believe him and accuses him of attacking her. Wishing he'd never bothered, Lewis watches Stacey flee... but then he sees Kevin. Lewis just has time to warn Maxine before the police arrive to arrest him.

Tom tries to make amends with Izzie by having a home-cooked dinner waiting for her when she arrives home. Izzie responds by hitting the roof and ordering him out of the house. Their relationship is over. Lorna can't believe it when Tom turns up legless on her doorstep. As far as he's concerned, she's the reason Izzie's chucked him out and so the least she can do is give him a bed for the night. Lorna finally runs out of patience with Tom's drunken self-pity and tells him she has MS.

Down at the police station, Lewis proclaims his innocence. When the police refuse to believe his allegations against Kevin, he accuses them of looking no further than his ASBO - while they're wasting time questioning him, Kevin could be out there attacking another girl. The police go to question Kevin and Maxine can't believe it when he blatantly lies about his whereabouts, but with her mum sticking up for him, there's very little she can do about it about it... that is until she finds a black balaclava in Kevin's rucksack. Lewis was telling the truth all along! Aware the police will never believe the word of a former drug addict, Maxine runs to the one person she knows who will.

Jack has invited Kim and Andrew to join him and Davina for dinner, but their evening is interrupted when Steph calls with the news about Kevin. Davina is furious with Jack for abandoning her in favour of Steph, but when she tries to make alternative plans with Brett, he ignores her and decides to call on Mika instead. As she turns him away, Mika curses his rotten timing. Someone up there has definitely got it in for her.
