Christopher Mead

Played by
William Ash

In his early thirties and born and bred in Cheshire, Christopher is the son of self-made working class parents. Ambitious and attractive, he followed his parents' example on leaving school and won himself a high-powered job in the city, where he excelled at chasing big bucks.

When he lost his job Christopher turned to education as a stopgap, but discovered his true calling as a science teacher and soon found himself zooming up the ranks to become Max's Deputy Head. Christopher soon becomes one of the most popular members of staff at Waterloo Road – especially among the female pupils.

Christopher was brought in last term as Max’s second-in-command and ‘yes man’ but Rachel forced the scales from his eyes and Christopher came to respect and admire her methods over those of his old colleague. This term will see him play the dedicated deputy, good in a crisis and able to step into Rachel’s shoes when required.

Chris has always had a soft spot for Kim Campbell but last term was forced to sit back whilst she became romantically linked with Max. When Kim finds out that she’s carrying Max’s baby, Chris becomes an unexpected source of comfort and support. But it’s not all smooth sailing and this term will see Chris and Kim in stark opposition over educational matters. As Steph remarks, there’s no smoke without fire and as these two bash heads there may be more at stake than just professional pride.
